WHAT IS THERMOGRAPHY?

Thermography is the process of creating images of objects taken with a specially designed infrared camera. These images, called thermograms, are a measure of the object's surface temperature variations which are interpreted by a qualified thermographer. This technology has a wide variety of applications, from electrical systems analysis to veterinarian applications to military applications.

HOW AN INFRARED CAMERA WORKS

Infrared cameras measure and document the thermal energy being emitted from an object. Infrared is a term used to define light frequencies below red. The human eye cannot see it but the camera can. Everything has infrared energy. The hotter the object, the more energy it gives off . An infrared camera detects this thermal energy and translates it into a picture. In these pictures, the hotter the object the brighter it appears.

PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE

A thermographic survey can detect a problem before it manifests itself into a costly failure. By conducting thermographic scans and analyzing the results, we are able to predict equipment and device breakdown before the actual failure. If left to fail, the cost could skyrocket into thousands of dollars for equipment, repair or replacement.

One considerable advantage of conducting a thermographic scan is that in an operation environment, the equipment doesn't need to be shutdown. In fact, it is preferable for the equipment to operate near full-load capacity. That way we can measure the severity of the fault with greater accuracy.
