INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL INSPECTIONS

Electrical Scans
Infrared is used to locate defects and potential failure in electrical equipment by scanning for abnormal hot spots and heating patterns. These inspections are done while the equipment is "live", thereby avoiding system shutdowns which can be costly. By detecting electrical problems manifested by heat, we are able to locate and repair these defects before they result in unscheduled power loss and equipment damage. Some electrical conditions that we can detect are:

  • Abnormal transformer operating temperatures
  • Ballast overheating
  • Corroded, loose and improper connections
  • Defective fuses
  • Eddy currents
  • Faulty breaker connections
  • Faulty contacts
  • High resistance joints
  • Hysterisis
  • Induced voltages on non-energized equipment
  • Inoperative capacitors
  • Overheated bushings
  • Overloading
  • Shorted or open motor windings
  • Unbalanced loads
  • Voltage tracking on insulators

Mechanical System Scans
Mechanical applications for thermal imaging almost always involve rotating equipment. Excessive heat is generated by friction caused by faulty bearings, inadequate lubrication, misalignment, imbalance, misuse, or normal wear. We can combine thermography with other methods to provide a complete analysis of mechanical conditions. The temperature of motors, gearboxes or just about any mechanical equipment can be monitored over time and historical data can then be trended. Some mechanical conditions that we can detect are:

  • Broken or defective valves
  • Defective seals
  • High bearing temperatures
  • High oil temperature
  • Misalignment in rotating equipment

Insulation Deficiencies
With our cold Saskatchewan winters and increasing energy costs, it's beginning to be more and more important to have our homes and offices properly insulated. Even new structures have been known to have defects in their thermal envelopes. These defects, however, can not be seen with the naked eye because of the finished wall coverings, or other physical obstructions. Our thermographic camera allows us to "see" into the walls and detect problem areas in a non-intrusive manner, by measuring the thermal radiation of the wall surfaces. Through our scans, we can quickly and cost effectively inspect the building envelop and window seals for efficiency and quality of construction. The results are analyzed and correlated into an easy to understand report that you can use to base your decisions on.

Moisture and Mold
A thermographic scan proves advantageous in identifying hidden deficiencies in both current or potential residential, commercial and industrial properties. Scans are quick and non-intrusive and are especially important in older properties, where there can be serious moisture problems hidden behind walls, in ceilings and in roof membranes. Moisture build-up can spawn unhealthy mold, not to mention material rotting and breakdown which could result in large unexpected repairs to be done down the road. Having a thermographic scan as part of a building inspection, can give you piece of mind by knowing exactly what is happening out of sight.

REPORTING

Reports are available and tailored to the needs of our clients. Our reports can include an image of the condition, both in infrared and visual light, our analysis as to why the condition exists and suggestions for correcting the problem. We provide a hardcopy of the report and/or a version on CD ROM which includes a copy of all images taken. Our thermographic analysis and report is the most comprehensive available in Saskatchewan, adding significantly to the versatility of our service.
